Lucknow. Abhishek Ranjan won the Open category title in the Shivani Cup Sunday Open Prize Money Chess tournament, beating Anuj Yadav with superior performance in the tiebreak score. KK Srivastava in the Veteran category, Vaibhav Kumar Dubey, Tejas Krishna, Aman Goyal and Ujjwal Raj Srivastava became champions in the age group in the tournament organized at Shivani Public School under the aegis of Lucknow District Chess Sports Association. 228 players took part in the tournament.
After the fifth and final round of the open category, Abhishek Ranjan and Anuj Yadav got five points each but due to the tiebreak score, Abhishek finished first and Anuj finished second. Deep Singh, Ranjan Bhattacharya and Vallabh Vaibhav Srivastava had four points each but Deep was third, Ranjan fourth and Vallabh fifth due to the tiebreak score.
In the under-14 category, Tejas Krishna of St. Francis and Anerv Tiwari of Acilia School scored five points each but Tejas finished first and Anarav second with a tiebreak score. Akshat Bhatnagar finished third with four and a half points.
In the under-16 category, Aman Goyal and Vinayak Gupta of LaMartinier College scored four-and-a-half points like Vinayak Gupta but Aman stood first and Vinayak second with a tiebreak score. Able Shukla of Stella Maris finished third with four points.
LaMartinier College in Best Performing School and Shivani Public School in maximum participation received awards. At the closing ceremony, the awards were presented by Mrs Satyabhama Dubey, Founding Chairperson of Shivani Group of Schools and Colleges.
